What Are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride is a common ingredient in dental products such as toothpaste and mouthwash, known for its ability to protect and strengthen teeth, reducing the risk of cavities. While daily use of fluoride is important, we offer professional fluoride treatments that provide additional protection for your smile. These treatments are beneficial for both adults and children, ensuring lasting oral health for everyone.

Why Might You Need Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride treatments can be beneficial for several reasons. If you're more prone to tooth decay—such as children and teens who may not always brush and floss effectively—you might need extra protection. Additionally, fluoride treatments can help strengthen your teeth, complementing your at-home oral care routine and other preventive measures.

Who is a Candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

Determining if fluoride treatments are right for you is simple and can be done through an exam. For children, we often recommend fluoride treatments to help maintain strong, healthy smiles. In fact, most of our patients can benefit from these treatments, and they can be performed as frequently as necessary based on your individual needs.

What to Expect During Fluoride Treatments

The fluoride treatment process begins with you relaxing in one of our comfortable dental chairs. We'll start by thoroughly cleaning your teeth before applying the fluoride. A liquid fluoride solution is then carefully brushed over your teeth. After the treatment, we’ll provide instructions on how to care for your teeth. Most patients are advised to avoid eating or drinking for about an hour to allow the fluoride to fully absorb.

Fluoride treatments can be performed as often as needed. Some patients choose to have them at every cleaning or checkup visit to enhance the protection of their smile.
